Popular hair salon removes all 'gossip' magazines following Caroline Flack's death - Hull Daily Mail

A popular hair salon has removed all celebrity "gossip" magazines from its coffee tables following the death of Caroline Flack.

Hair Rebellion in Hessle has told customers the magazines will no longer be available to read in the salon and will instead be replaced with home or cooking magazines which "enhance lives instead of ruining others."

Sam Harrison, the owner of the hair extension specialist salon on Boothferry Road in Hessle said she made the decision following the tragic death of the Love Island host.

She shared the news in Facebook and Instagram posts which have been well-received by customers who have supported the move.

The post has also been shared by other salons who have now agreed to do the same.

Mrs Harrison said: "I just think so many people are constantly judging everyone else, not just online and on social media, but in reading the gossip magazines.

"I just wanted to promote and act on the hashtag bekind

"Like I said in the post, we will provide magazine that will enhance their life, rather than ones that ruin everyone elses."

Mrs Harrison said due to the hair replacement services the salon offers, a lot of her customers are people who may have low self-esteem due to hair loss, and does not want to promote anything in the salon which ridicules people.

The "gossip" mags have been removed from the salon

She said: "We do a lot of hair replacement for gents and ladies, some of the people who are in the salon are really quite vulnerable, we find that you end up being councillors as hair dressers and beauty therapists.

"Why have people in that have had others ridicule them and provide them with something to read where other journalist are doing it as well?

"For some people who come in here it’s a big step to just walk through the door. The last thing you want to have is people in there sat slating other people in magazines for how they look, whether its their weight, hair or skin.

"I don’t think anyone should be ridiculed, especially vulnerable people, people need to really take this on board and not just do it for a week or so."

Dozens of customers have supported the move.

One customer said: "This is one of the best posts I have seen all week !! Great thing to do , gossip kills !! I applaud you , good luck in your business , and thank you for your actions."

Another said: "Let’s hope more places follow suit, what a great move."
