Eddie Murphy ‘tried to stop Whitney Houston marrying Bobby Brown on wedding day’, new book claims - The Sun

EDDIE Murphy tried to halt the wedding of Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown on their big day, a bombshell new book has claimed.

According to a memoir by the late Bodyguard star's best friend Robyn Crawford, Whitney tried to pursue a romance with Eddie back in 1989 but he played hard to get.

"She was more interested in Eddie Murphy [than Bobby Brown] but he was elusive," Robyn writes in the book, adding that Whitney "lost herself" while trying to get the attention of the Beverly Hills Cop actor.

Robyn recalls a night when Eddie was supposed to going to Whitney's house for a dinner date and the singer was desperate to make an impression on him.

"She was wearing a black dress and low-heeled slingbacks. For a moment, I thought ‘Boy, I wish she was doing that for me,'" revealed Robyn.

The book goes on to reveal how Whitney was devastated because Eddie "never showed up that night" and she would later go on to get engaged to Bobby Brown.

But on the morning of the pair's wedding on July 18 1992, Robyn alleges that Eddie calls Whitney to make a last minute attempt to stop her marrying Bobby.

Robyn, whose close relationship with Whitney led to rumours about the megastar's sexuality, wrote: "[That day] Eddie Murphy called to say she was making a mistake, but she pressed ahead.”

The tell-all goes on to document lots of "beautiful, wonderful, exciting, adventurous, loving, caring memories" of the star, Robyn claims.

Robyn said: "Whitney was a beautiful friend, the friend that I prayed for."

Whitney and Bobby had a volatile relationship and eventually split in 2007.

The pair battled drug addictions and Whitney eventually succumbed to hers, aged just 48.

She was found drowned in the bath at the Beverly Hilton hotel in February 2012 with prescription drugs, cocaine and cannabis in her system.
