Royal shock: How Queen could get around fur ban to continue wearing favourite outfits - Express

Queen Elizabeth II’s adviser and senior dresser, Angela Kelly, revealed the Queen has given up wearing fur, choosing to wear fake alternatives since the beginning of this year. The revelation by Ms Kelly came in her new book about her relationship with the Queen. However, despite this, Ms Kelly admitted that the monarch would still “wear old outfits with fur on”.

Her Majesty has often stepped out in animal furs over the years, but made the change at the beginning of this year.

The Humane Society, an animal charity, said: “It sends out a powerful message that fur is firmly out of fashion.”

Royal Commentator and Biographer, Claudia Joseph, said the move was a “powerful message”.

She told Sky News: “I think the mood has changed in this country towards fur, and I think the Queen has her finger firmly on the pulse of things like this.”

Of the rest of the family, she said: “The young royals don’t wear fur, Kate was once caught in a fur hat and there was an uproar.

“Since then she’s worn sustainable alpaca or fake fur, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen Meghan in fur.

“She will still wear the state ceremonial robes with ermine fur. We saw her last month do that at the reopening of Parliament

“Obviously there are problems with fake fur too because they’re derived from petroleum.”

Ms Mills also talked about its significance: “Fashion has always been incredibly important to Her Majesty to make sure that she stands out.

“Today people are celebrating in many way the fact that she has decided that when it comes to wearing fur, she is no longer going to wear it as part of her outfits and instead has told her dresser, Angela Kelly, that she wants to go for fake fur instead.

“Now Angela Kelly is probably one of her most trusted advisers, she is dresser to the Queen and a fashion stylist for her.

“She has talked about how when she has been dressing the Queen in the past, the fact that fur has been woven into those garments has been hugely important.

“Those really standout outfits that we’ve seen over the decades have included fur.”
