Oti Mabuse has revealed why she was left in tears after her Strictly Come Dancing performance over the weekend.

The professional dancer and her partner Kelvin Fletcher danced an emotional waltz to 'Say Something' during Saturday night's show (November 2), with Oti becoming visibly upset after Shirley Ballas' critique of her routine.

However, posting to Twitter on Sunday (November 3), Oti explained the reason she was actually crying was because of "how happy" dancing the routine had made her feel and not because of Shirley's comments.

"Just to be clear," Oti wrote.

"Nothing Shirley Ballas said to us was wrong nor did it make me tear, she was being honest and her critique is valuable to our journey.

"I’d like us to improve & as I stated before I was emotional about THE DANCE & how happy dancing made me feel (HAPPY TEARS)."

She added: "It’s okay to be human it doesn’t always have to mean something... most times it’s seeing someone else’s hardwork, dedication and passion of dance that can make you feel!!!

"What a great show to be a part of."

The weekend's shows saw Viscountess Emma Weymouth and her partner Aljaž Škorjanec voted out of the competition.

Sunday night's show also saw Strictly Come Dancing air its first ever same-sex dance routine, which viewers praised as "magnificent" and "beautiful" and Johannes Radebe dubbed 'liberating'.

Strictly Come Dancing 2019 continues on Saturday (November 9) at 6.50pm on BBC One.
