Katherine Jenkins sang in a charity carol service this week just hours after being mugged by two teenage girls as she bravely tried to intervene in a robbery.

The singer stepped in to help an elderly woman who was being attacked in the street on King's Road in Chelsea, West London, while on her way to perform at the service attended by Pippa and Carole Middleton.

The 39-year-old soprano then fell victim herself during the 'extremely violent' incident on Wednesday afternoon - but still went on to sing in the concert at St Luke's Church because she 'didn't want to let the charity down'.

The service was organised by the Henry van Straubenzee Memorial Fund – set up shortly after the 18-year-old, who was a close friend of Princes William and Harry – died in a car crash in 2002.

Henry's brother Thomas van Straubenzee, who is one of Prince William’s best friends and Princess Charlotte's godfather, sports broadcaster Ed Chamberlin and Conservative grandee Sir Nicholas Soames were in attendance.

Miss Jenkins sang Silent Night and Oh Holy Night at the concert. A member of the congregation told MailOnline: 'Katherine as ever was a brilliant melodic singer but I sensed a little spark missing in her mood.

Two 15-year-old girls were arrested on suspicion of robbery, the Metropolitan Police said.

Three officers led away one suspect wearing a hooded jumper and trainers, who appeared to be protesting.

A second girl wearing glasses was also seen in handcuffs near the scene as police spoke to her by the entrance to a building.

One of the suspected attackers was then put in the back of a van, which drove off with its lights flashing.

One of the suspects was re-arrested yesterday in connection with the same incident after further information emerged.

Miss Jenkins's spokesman confirmed the mugging and said that the singer had seen the elderly woman being attacked and gone over to assist her, before falling victim herself.

Miss Jenkins then went on to attend the service at nearby St Luke's Church.

Her agent said: 'Miraculously, Katherine still managed to perform at the concert as she didn't want to let the charity down.'

Miss Jenkins is married to Andrew Levitas, 42.

The incident comes weeks after fashion designer to the royals Amanda Wakeley was mugged of her watch less than a mile away by axe-wielding moped raiders.

Thieves let the tyres of 57-year-old Miss Wakeley's car down at Chelsea Harbour before riding up and threatening her with an axe on November 13.

In a statement, Miss Jenkins's agent said: 'Katherine was in London to sing at the Henry van Straubenzee memorial charity carol concert at St Luke's Church.

'On her way to rehearsal she witnessed an older lady being viciously mugged and intervened to help.

'As a result of her stepping in, Katherine was then mugged herself.

'However she helped the police identify the perpetrator and the young woman was arrested shortly afterwards.'

King's Road became famous in the 1960s for being at the centre of London's fashion scene. In recent years it has been associated with reality show Made In Chelsea.
