Welcoming the New Year, the non-binary star, 27, told their followers: 'So tomorrow is 2020. Wow. I find Times like these are this crazy mix of happy and sad, where we look back at the last 10 years and think of all we’ve been through in our lives.

'Seeing you all post throwback photos and moments made me message my friend from school and ask if she had any photos from 10 years ago when I was 17.

'And I found this ICONIC picture above Hahahaha. This picture made me emotional because the confidence and freedom I’ve felt the last year is EVERYTHING I had those 10 years ago.'

Sam paired a black suit with a quirky shirt and a rose brooch in the throwback snap, and in the caption they continued: 'This to me is a beautiful and important reminder that as we get older, life can get tough.

'As growing adults we get launched into this sometimes cruel and heartless world. And through that we sometimes feel like we lose ourselves and that spark we once had.

'But the truth is, if we fight on, do the work, keep singing, dancing and loving... we will be ok,' Sam reassured their followers.

'The kid in this picture went to school everyday in their non binary gloriousness and ignored every stare or verbal taunt that was thrown their way. That kid never left,' they continued.

'They just had some hardcore feelings to feel. So to all you beautiful humans on the last day of 2019, my only advice after my very short time on this earth is... FEEL IT ALL!!!!

'And celebrate your sexy selves. I’m raising a spliff and a glass of wine to the sky for you all ❤ p.s. that’s a fake Louis V.'

'I love me some mince pies and all the trimmings, and I always find I gain a bit of weight during this time. I’m writing this out to you all, but also writing this for myself.

'Let’s make sure we remind our bodies during this time that no matter what weight we are, we are deserving of love and acceptance. Let’s love our fluctuating bodies.'

A message many can relate to, they wrote: 'Look in that mirror and shower that reflection with Christmas kindness. Be super soft. It’s an everyday struggle for me.You aren’t alone xx.'

Earlier this year, Sam - who identifies as non-binary and has asked to be referred to with they/them pronouns, said they were 'finally friends' with their body, after revealing they had undergone liposuction at the age of just 12.

Speaking to Jameela Jamil, 33, as part of her body positivity series, I Weigh Interviews, Sam admitted they’ve struggled with their weight since they were a child, and was even picked on at school for being 'chubby'.

They said: 'When I was a kid, I was chubby ... and then it would get worse and worse and worse and I was holding a lot of weight in my chest.

'When I hit 11 years old, I went to the doctor's. I was so self-conscious that it was affecting my mood every day. I had liposuction, I was 12 years old.

'At the time I think I was very happy about it. It didn't really change anything. I think I put the weight back on in two weeks because I hadn't figured out my relationship with food, so it didn't really change anything.

'But being 12 years old and having liposuction on your chest is quite a big deal.'

But in an Instagram post the following month, they revealed they’ve begun to come to terms with their body.

They wrote: 'Feeling bloated and gross after my flight so thought I'd post a mirror selfie of my sexy bloated boobies coz we are friends. Finally (sic).'
