Kelly Marie Tran's Rose Tico was an exciting new addition to the Star Wars series, but after an integral role in Rian Johnson's The Last Jedi, Rose was left somewhat on the sidelines in The Rise of Skywalker.
In light of Rose's essentially static role at the Rebel base, Slate has calculated exactly how much screentime the character was given in Episode IX's 142-minute run-time. Unfortunately, it's a disappointing sum.
Give or take a few seconds, Kelly Marie Tran's heroic engineer apparently appeared for just 1 minute and 16 seconds in The Rise of Skywalker – and that's including scenes without any dialogue or direct action from Rose.
Rose, promoted to the head of the Resistance's Engineering Corps, was promised a "big" role in The Rise of Skywalker by Kelly Marie Tran, but the stats suggest otherwise.
Speaking ahead of the film's release, Kelly said that her character's place in the Skywalker's Saga conclusion had even required extra training behind the scenes.
"Before, Rose was a new character who was in maintenance and she was not a huge part of the resistance. But now she's in the resistance in a big way and it's very cool," she explained.
"I had to learn everything that had to do with being in a war, like holding a gun. I've never held a gun before. Things like that, that you don't even think about when you're watching this movie. We're all real people living real lives," she said.
The problem of Rose aside, The Rise of Skywalker has proved pretty divisive, with some fans feeling happy with how things were concluded and others left pondering many unanswered questions.
In an attempt to settle the debate once and for all, we asked Digital Spy readers what they made of JJ Abrams' effort and if it was a satisfying end to the trilogy. Although not a resounding 'yes', some 58% of you felt that it was "perfect", while 42% found it "disappointing".
