It’s been seven months since The Big Bang Theory came to a close and since we waved goodbye to Penny, Leonard, Sheldon, Amy, Raj, Bernadette and Howard, plot holes and wild speculation have in many ways kept the show alive.
From the oversight in Raj and Howard’s friendship to Sheldon’s forgotten jail time, there’s been a lot to unravel from the CBS sitcom.
But this hypothesis involving Howard and his mother from a fan on Reddit will change how you view The Big Bang Theory forever – it’s chilling.
Debbie Wolowitz famously never appeared on-screen and was played by voiceover actress Carol Ann Susi, who passed away in 2014 midway through the comedy’s 12 season run.

Debs was subsequently written out of The Big Bang Theory, but one fan has questioned whether Mrs Wolowitz was ever present at all or was Howard another Norman Bates and the voice of his mother was only in his mind?
‘Small theory here, Howard’s mom doesn’t exist,’ wrote Redditor Pick234. ‘He is just crazy and lonely and uses ventriloquism to speak for her. Also All of his friends like him so much and either A believes him or B don’t want to break it to him that she isn’t there, either out of love or fear that he would snap.’
Many of Howard’s pals’ parents, however, made their mark on-screen. Sheldon has his own spin-off series exploring the scientist’s family life as a child in Young Sheldon while Leonard’s problematic mother Beverly was easily a Big Bang highlight, mainly thanks to the pinnacle of icons that is Christine Jane Baranski.
The Big Bang Theory writers kept Debbie alive following Carol’s death in Howard’s equally invisible baby, with showrunner Steven Molaro revealing viewers never saw the little one because she was a ‘loving tribute’ to his mother.
Though, he told TV Line: ‘It also means we don’t have to have a baby on the set, so it solved lots of problems.’
