The country’s leading newspaper the Globe and Mail condemned the couple, claiming Canada is “not a halfway house” for the royals. Last week the world was shocked to learn Meghan and Harry had opted to step away from senior Royal Family life. They said they intended to spend half their year in North America, and the other half in the UK.
However, their decision has been met with backlash, according to the Daily Mirror.
In a column in the Canadian newspaper, the paper said the country was not there for anyone “looking to get out of Britain while remaining a royal”.
They described the couple’s plan to move as “vague and evolving”.
The article said that this wasn’t “something that Canada can allow”.
The article added: “But this country's unique monarchy, and its delicate yet essential place in our constitutional system, means that a royal resident – the prince is sixth in the line of succession – is not something that Canada can allow.
“It breaks an unspoken constitutional taboo.
"Princes are not shipped over here when no useful duties can be found for them on the other side of the Atlantic.
"Canada welcomes people of all faiths, nationalities and races, but if you're a senior member of our Royal Family, this country cannot become your home."

Sources have said that Prince Harry wanted the opportunity to get his side across before the future of the Sussexes was decided by the family at the Sandringham Summit this week.
The Queen met with Prince Harry, William and Charles to discuss the Sussexes’ plea.
