EAMONN Holmes appeared to grab This Morning’s gong from Phillip Schofield in a backstage clash at the National Television Awards.
He was furious after Schofield hugged his wife Ruth Langsford, who has made bullying claims against her fellow presenter, as the team collected their award.
Nine weeks ago, The Sun revealed that Ruth, 59, had made a formal complaint against 57-year-old Schofield.
It came after he rudely interrupted her while she was presenting a preview of Loose Women during This Morning.
And ITV insiders said they felt Phil’s actions during Tuesday's awards do were “disingenuous”.
During the bash at London’s O2 Arena, This Morning’s group including Holly Willoughby collected the Live Magazine show award.
A source said: “Phil’s relationship with Ruth and Eamonn is hugely strained and at ITV they give each other a wide berth.
“So when Phil reached out to try and put Ruth in the spotlight when they collected the award, it felt a bit humiliating.
“And it was awkward for everyone around them.”
Onlookers said that in the winners’ room afterwards, Phil stood with his back to Ruth as he and co-host Holly, 38 posed individually with the gong.
When Holly reached out to allow Ruth to pose with it, Phil was seen putting his hand on the statuette.
Eamonn then appeared to firmly grab the award, push it down in an apparent attempt to dislodge Phil's grip.
An onlooker backstage said Phil and Ruth did not speak and interacted only when Holly suggested she take the award.
They added: “As Eamonn realised Phil was holding the award, he seemed to pull it away.
“Phil was grinning but it was obvious he was furious. Eamonn on the other hand was in high spirits — he’d made his point.
“Ruth looked like she couldn’t wait to get away from Phil. There’s obviously no love lost.”
The tension continued afterwards, when Holly and Phil returned to their VIP box.
Onlookers revealed how three runners, who help make the ITV show, went inside but were quickly removed on Phil’s orders.
They said: “Phil didn’t want to celebrate the win with anyone that wasn’t top brass.
“He was friendly to the runners but they were then asked to leave. It’s typical of that kind of attitude they have on This Morning.”
Last night a spokeswoman for Eamonn insisted there are no issues between him and Phillip.
