PHILLIP Schofield’s wife Steph has vowed to stand by him after his bombshell admission that he is gay.
Steph, 56, insisted: “I love Phillip, as much today as I ever have, and always will.”
She told The Sun that she and Phillip were full of praise for their two daughters Molly, 26, and Ruby, 24.
Steph said: “We’ve been awestruck by the strength and love of our precious girls, even as they’ve been trying to make sense of it all for themselves.
“Our family have also been so supportive and will help us going forward.”
She added: “Although this is difficult for us all, I support Phillip in taking this brave step.”
Phillip, 57, confessed in an interview with The Sun on Sunday that he did not know what the future held for the couple.
He said: “It has taken me a long time to get here, I am not rushing to get to any other place.
“We will always be a family. That is the one definite, constant, absolute positive thing. And where the wind blows us I don’t know.”
But Steph revealed she had no intention of abandoning her husband of almost 27 years.
She said: “I will still be there, holding his hand. Everyone should be proud to live their own truth.”
Phillip stunned the nation on Friday when he released his bombshell statement on Instagram.
He stated he had spent the past few years “consumed” with “coming to terms with the fact that I am gay”.
It was followed by an emotional live interview with his This Morning co- presenter and close friend Holly Willoughby.
Phillip married Steph in 1993 while he was starring in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
The pair met when Phillip was 25 and hosting the links between children’s shows from the BBC Broom cupboard. She was then a production assistant.
Phillip said: “Steph is my closest confidante. I have no secrets from Steph. We have been very truthful and very honest.”
