Elton John compares himself to The Bionic Woman after prostate cancer surgery - Daily Mail

Elton John compares himself to The Bionic Woman as 'there are very few bits of me left' after prostate cancer surgery... revealing he had to re-learn to walk and feared he wouldn't see his sons grow up

Sir Elton John has said there is hardly anything left of him after his prostate cancer surgery and health issues.

The 72-year-old singer suffered a major infection following the operation two years ago.

He said: 'I literally had to learn to walk again. I was extremely sick. Luckily I survived it. Now I am fine. But there are very few bits of me left!'

He went on: 'There is no hair, a pacemaker, there is no tonsils, there is no prostate, there is no appendix. I have had kidney stones. I am like the Bionic Woman. I am like Lyndsay Wagner or Steve Austin. Whichever one you want to call it.'

Sir Elton told Graham Norton in the BBC One programme Elton John: Uncensored, to be shown on November 28, that he had feared he would not live to see his children grow up.

He is father to sons Elijah, six, and Zachary, eight, and revealed the severity of the scare in his autobiography, Me, serialised in the Daily Mail.

He told how he did a Las Vegas show in a lot of pain after the operation and thought: 'Don’t let me die, I want to see my children grow up.'

Elton also told Graham that he wants to stop singing Crocodile Rock and Benny And The Jets from his repertoire.

'I’d like to do a residency like Kate Bush at Hammersmith Odeon. When I do, I will not be doing all the hits and I will tell people beforehand,' he said. 'I’d like to give my other repertoire a go and still do some of the well-known songs — the ones I’m not so fed up with.'

Elton also speaks about the photographer Terry O’Neill - who died on Saturday aged 81.

For his final project, Terry published a book of photos of Elton, filled with moments from the singer’s career and life.

Elton said: 'I’m so glad he was with us throughout the madness. His evocative and stylish photos captured those moments as no other photographer could.'

Elton John: Uncensored will air on BBC One on November 28.
