Prince Andrew: Queen scraps Duke's birthday party as public demand Trooping the Colour ban - Express

It is understood the Queen, 93, has scaled back plans for her second eldest son and will now host a small family event to mark the occasion on February 19. The Duke of York, 59, has suffered a huge backlash a week on from his bombshell interview with BBC Newsnight. The Duke repeatedly denied allegations he slept with a 17-year-old girl linked with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

Several charities, businesses and a university have since cut ties with the Prince, and now a public survey has called for him to be banned from major royal engagements including Trooping the Colour.

For Prince Charles’ 60th birthday the Queen hosted a dinner and concert at Buckingham Palace.

In 2008, more than 400 guests were invited to the Palace including European royals, celebrities and members of the Prince of Wales’ charities.

A 41-gun salute was also fired in London’s Hyde Park as well as a 61-gun salute at the Tower of London.

During a turbulent week for Prince Andrew he announced he would be stepping down from public duty for the “foreseeable future”.

In a statement released by Buckingham Palace, the Duke said: “It has become clear to me over the last few days that the circumstances relating to my former association with Jeffrey Epstein has become a major disruption to my family's work.

“Therefore, I have asked Her Majesty if I may step back from public duties for the foreseeable future, and she has given her permission.

“Of course, I am willing to help any appropriate law enforcement agency with their investigations, if required."

It is not known how long the Duke will take a step back from royal duties, however a YouGov poll for the Sunday Times has found more than half of people think the Duke should not attend events attended by the entire royal family, including Trooping The Colour.

The survey asked 1,677 adults between November 21-22, ‘Do you think Prince Andrew should or should not continue to go to public events attended by the whole royal family - such a trooping the colour and Remembrance Sunday?’

Earlier this month Prince Andrew did attend the Remembrance Sunday service at the Cenotaph along with the rest of the Royal Family.

Trooping The Colour is a major event in the royal calendar and marks the Queen’s official birthday.

Every year thousands of people line the streets to watch the military parade and the royals gather on the balcony at Buckingham Palace to watch a fly-past by the Royal Air Force and 41-gun salute from Green Park.
