STRICTLY Come Dancing professional Neil Jones was left "awkward" and forced to pull off a series of comical impressions as judge Motsi Mabuse referred to his role in an affair, in a cringe-worthy show gaffe.

The newbie to the BBC One dancing show panel was actually talking of Neil's return to dance partner Alex Jones, after two weeks off due to injury - where Kevin Clifton took his place.

Yet her mention of an "affair" and reference to infidelity smacked of reality to Neil, whose wife and fellow show professional Katya Jones did the dirty on him last year.

She was spotted enjoying a passionate snog with her celebrity dance partner comedian Seann Walsh, shortly after which the pair split.

Forced to re-live the painful experience on the live show on Saturday, Neil widened his eyes and appeared baffled as Motsi - probably unknowingly - put her foot in it.

Giving her feedback on their lively Jive routine, she said: "It’s like seeing a new couple that we [already] knew.

Neil firstly laughed at the comment, with his mouth wide open, before narrowing his eyes.

Footballer and pundit Alex, meanwhile, couldn't help herself from laughing at the irony of Motsi's words.

It is highly likely Motsi wasn't aware of Neil's very public heartbreak, as she was only appointed to the panel this year.

Yet fans were quick to flag her blooper on Twitter, with one writing: "Oh dear what a gaffe Motsi committed there. Look at Neil’s awkward expression. Quite a tactless comment.

Another put: "First Motsi tells Neil it’s like Alex had an affair, now Claudia’s told an upset Karim than if he doesn’t make it to Blackpool they’ll bring I’m some rock back I love both of them, but wow!"

A third commented: "I cringed so bad when motsi mentioned an “affair” to alex & neil."

Another wrote: "Wow! Does Motsi realise her comparison of Alex and Neil’s break being like having an affair, has just been made to the guy who’s actual wife had an affair with her celebrity partner on last years show?!!! OK it was more of a really public snog and grope but still."

One then surmised: "Motsi mentioned about affair when talking about neil and alex dancing again #Strictly poor neil."

Meanwhile, The Sun was first to reveal Alex's fury as she was re-paired with Neil on Saturday.

A source said: “Alex was fuming. She made it clear she wanted to continue with Kevin.”

Her frustrations spilled over after a week of dithering about her original partner, crocked pro Neil Jones.
