The former rapper set the internet ablaze, as he joined his parents and three siblings at the A-List event in Los Angeles, where his dad Tom was presented with the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille award.

He set his Instagram to live on the red-carpet and confused viewers by apparently speaking Jamaican patois, an English-based creole language - despite being born and raised in Los Angeles.

'BIG UP FIMI WHOL FAMILY SOON COM AT DI AWARDS NA SEEN,' he captioned the clip. 'CHUNE IN.'

The internet did not agree with the verdict from his mother, actress Rita Wilson, who commented that it was 'maybe the best laugh of the night.'

One baffled Twitter user described the footage as 'deeply disturbing and chaotic,' amid a social media backlash as it went viral.

'Why is Tom Hanks' son Chet Hanks speaking patois?' one person asked, while another responded: 'Idk how but blame Drake.'

Another noted: 'He’s embarrassing the entire family and he’s not bad looking.'

Others compared Chet to his Oscar-winning dad, insisting that the two men couldn't be more different if they tried.

'Tom Hanks is so Tom Hanks that the most non-Tom Hanks thing about him is Chet. For that, we're lucky,' one person commented.

'Sometimes the apple falls off the tree and rolls down a hill and into a ravine,' someone else wrote.

Another joked: 'So there is one thing that Tom Hanks has made that hasn’t worked.'

Others shared memes of his father's awkward reaction to host Ricky Gervais' opening monologue slamming Hollywood in response to the video.

After he started trending, Chet returned to Instagram to put the incident in perspective against more serious news.

He shared a screenshot of a CNN headline that read, "Tom Hanks' son Chet is filmed speaking patois at the Golden Globes - and the Internet is baffled."

The Project X actor made it clear that he found the fact that the clip was making headlines to be ridiculous.

"Average citizens: damn this is scary I can’t believe we’re on the verge of WW3 let me check the news smh," he wrote.

Chet previously defended his use of the N-word when he was an aspiring rapper in 2015.

'I know the majority of y'all are not going to get this because the history is still so fresh in our country,' he said. 'But hip-hop isn't about race — it's about the culture you identify with. Can't no one tell me what I can't say.'

Chet, who is now sober after going to rehab, explained in a 2018 podcast interview that he 'was on a lot of drugs' when he used the word and then tried to defend it in his since-deleted Instagram video.

'I wanted to be, like, down, you know what I mean? I just felt like I wasn't enough,' he admitted at the time.
