Royal heartbreak: Prince William breaks silence on coronavirus shock as Queen flees London - Express

Prince William has taken to social media to raise awareness of a new charity appeal that helps support individuals suffering hardship as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. In his latest post the Duke of Cambridge praised the UK for their "unique ability to pull together" during a time of crisis.

The Kensington Royal Twitter account shared a video of the Duke of Cambridge, giving a speech addressing the coronavirus pandemic.

The Prince praised local communities for their ability to support those affected.

The royal says this "Shows the very best of our values and human nature."

A caption posted alongside the short clip reads: "@TheNatEmergTrust has launched an appeal to raise funds to help local charities support individuals suffering hardship as a result of the coronavirus outbreak."

In the video, Prince William continues: "The public’s desire to help in the wake of tragedy needs to me managed and channelled in the best possible way which is why the establishment of the National Emergencies Trust was so important."

"I said at its launch last year that I dreaded the day when it would be needed.

"Sadly, with the outbreak of Covid-19, that day has come faster than any of us would have hoped.

"But now, more than ever, I am grateful that the National Emergencies Trust exists. It will ensure that support reaches those across the UK who need it most, as quickly and efficiently as possible."

JUST IN: Boris Johnson to pass EMERGENCY coronavirus legislation

London is set to face major restrictions as cases soar in the capital.

There are now over 2,000 cases in the UK.

Mr. Johnson has said he will keep the duration of school closures to an "absolute minimun".

Meanwhile, the Queen began her preparations to self-isolate last night.

The Queen will officially decamp to Windsor castle as part of the new measures.

This is said to be her majesty's favourite place to spend her summer and winter break when she isn't travelling.

So far the Queen has been praised for her attitude towards the outbreak, with many sources previously confirming its "business as usual" for the Queen.

The monarch was conscious to follow government advice and not cause panic for members of the public.

Many were surprised to see her attend the Commonwealth Day service during the outbreak.

The social distancing measures come as the UK's death toll hit 104 today with 2,626 confirmed cases.

Her Majesty officially spoke to Boris Johnson over the phone for her weekly audience this week as part of her social distancing measures.

The Prime Minister and the Queen were due to have a face-to-face meeting. However, the palace confirmed this did not end up happening in light of recent events.
