Russell Crowe gives message to people of St Helens during coronavirus crisis - St Helens Star

HOLLYWOOD star Russell Crowe has delivered a message to the people of St Helens during the coronavirus pandemic.

The megastar shared a video "on behalf of my old mate Johnny Vegas" making people in the town aware of the Steve Prescott Foundation delivery service during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The actor posted the video on his Twitter page, which has more than 2.7 million followers.

Andy Mikhail, owner of The Eccleston Arms, announced he would turn the bedroom part of the venue into a shop for NHS and emergency workers during the Covid-19 crisis.

The venue is also being used as a base to deliver food to those who need it the most, the elderly and vulnerable.

Comedian Johnny Vegas has been among those making deliveries.

The Gladiator star famously came to St Helens instead of the Oscars in 2015 when NRL club South Sydney Rabbitohs, who he owns, faced Saints in the rugby league World Club Challenge.

In the video, Russell Crowe said: "G'day folks, how are you doing? This is a message on behalf of my old mate Johnny Vegas.

"If you're in the St Helens area and you're having trouble getting food deliveries from your local supermarket, if you're NHS staff, a key worker, elderly, isolating, vulnerable, call this number, 01744 881881.

"Steve Prescott Foundation and Blackbrook rugby league team have set up a delivery service and they can help you out.

"They can pick up your shopping, they can maybe even pick up your medicine.

"One of the delivery workers is going to be Johnny Vegas so expect to lose every second or third biscuit!"
