Tiger King's Jeff Lowe speaks out after Don Lewis missing person case reopens - Irish Mirror

The success of Netflix docuseries Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness has seen the police investigation into the disappearance of John 'Don' Lewis being reopened.

The top ranking show on the streaming service looks into the world of exotic animal owners and most specifically the flamboyant Joe Exotic, whose real name is Joe Maldonado-Passage.

One of the storylines looks at the mysterious disappearance Don Lewis, the second husband of animal rights activist Carole Baskin.

She proved to be the nemesis of Joe Exotic, who alleged that she may have been involved in Joe's disappearance and has hinted that she may have even killed him, which is an allegation she has strenuously denied.

John 'Don' Lewis has been missing since 1997

Now, the Florida Sheriff has decided to reopen the missing person case and Jeff Lowe, who is the business partner of Joe Exotic, told Us Weekly that it was "about damn time" that the investigation began again.

Lowe currently owns and operates the Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park, as Exotic is serving a 22-year prison sentence for hiring a hitman to kill Baskin.

Lewis has not been seen since 1997 and Lowe said: "Joe had a whole file cabinet in the office full of all the paperwork proving it way more than the documentary showed.

"He has handwriting analysis, Carole’s diary, just tons of stuff that pointed to her guilt."

On March 29, Baskin posted a statement on social media denying that she was responsible for her husband's death and that she is doing "everything" to assist the police in trying to find him.

Her statement read: "Don was not easy to live with and like most couples, we had our moments. "

But I never threatened him and I certainly had nothing to do with his disappearance."

Lowe is convinced that Baskin is involved and claimed: "Joe had a spy inside Carole’s office for a while. She was sending him all kinds of personal information, but Carole finally found out and fired the girl."

He continued: “Carole is guilty, in my opinion. Don was already trying to plan his exit and was trying to find a way to keep his money if he was going to divorce her.”

On Monday, Florida sheriff Chad Chronister asked for fans of the show to contact with any new leads about Lewis' plight.

He wrote in statement on Twitter : "Since @netflix and #Covid19 #Quarantine has made #TigerKing all the rage, I figured it was a good time to ask for new leads.

“#CaroleBaskin #DonLewis # Netflix #Tiger #BigCatRescue #JoeExotic #TigerKingNetflix #HCSO.”

The Hillsborough County sheriff also posted a missing person poster, which revealed that the millionaire would now be 81 and it had an image of him holding a big cat.

Baskin, who runs the Big Cat Rescue animal sanctuary spoke about her innocence in a blog post at the weekend, claiming that the Netflix docuseries "had the sole goal of being as salacious and sensational as possible to draw viewers."

She wrote: "As part of that, it has a segment devoted to suggesting, with lies and innuendos from people who are not credible, that I had a role in the disappearance of my husband Don in 1997.

"The series presents this without any regard for the truth or in most cases even giving me an opportunity before publication to rebut the absurd claims.

"They did not care about truth. The unsavory lies are better for getting viewers."
