The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have spent the festive season in Canada after taking a six-week break and avoiding the Royal Family’s traditional Christmas gathering at Sandringham. The picture of baby Archie, shared on the royal couple’s official Instagram page, shows Harry holding him aloft in his arms as the pair show off beaming smiles. Archie is dressed in a grey bobble hat, boots and brown winter coat while Harry is wearing a khaki jacket with a blue hat.
“We've loved meeting so many of you from around the world and can't wait to meet many more of you next year.
“We hope 2020 brings each of you health and continued happiness.
"Special thanks to Chris Martin and @Coldplay for allowing us to use one of their songs."
It was a relatively low-key New Year message from the royal couple, who earned a reputation for their party lifestyle prior to Archie’s birth.
In December 2017, Harry took his then fiancée to the French Riviera where the couple celebrated with friends.
The group is said to have included Prince Albert of Monaco and his wife, Princess Charlene.
A source told MailOnline at the time: “Harry and Meghan were somewhere very private and very expensive.
Monaco’s royals were quick to play down the party antics, though.
A spokesman told the publication: “It must have been private if it was the case but I don’t know about it at all.”
Harry and Meghan were also at the heart of a massive security operation on their travels.
Three bodyguards accompanied them on a British Airways flight from London to Nice on New Year’s Eve, where they took up three rows of economy seats.
Once they had arrived, they boarded a helicopter for the seven-minute trip to Monte Carlo before spending two nights in the principality.
Festivities this year were clearly a lot more low-key in North America.
Meghan, 38, Harry, 35, and their seven-month-old son have reportedly been seen on Vancouver Island.
Meghan previously lived in Canada for seven years while appearing in hit TV drama, Suits.
Buckingham Palace said the royal trio were “enjoying sharing the warmth of the Canadian people”.
Last week, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau wrote on Twitter: “Prince Harry, Meghan, and Archie, we’re all wishing you a quiet and blessed stay in Canada.
“You’re among friends, and always welcome here."
