Strictly: Stacey Dooley denies she "pushed" Kevin Clifton to quit - digitalspy.com

Following the news that Strictly Come Dancing professional Kevin Clifton has decided to leave his role after seven years, his girlfriend Stacey Dooley has hit out at claims that she "pushed" her partner to quit the BBC show.

Stacey, who got together with Kevin after they won the glitterball trophy together in 2018, tweeted a photo of a headline which read: "Stacey Dooley pushed Kevin Clifton to quit Strictly because he's 'too big' for the show".

She captioned the image: "Honestly, we knew this would happen. And so it starts, again... utter nonsense".

She later wrote: "'TV power couple'. Give. Me. A. Break. These articles are so, so embarrassing" and replied to a follower who called the articles unacceptable: "It's just mind blowing. It'll continue for a bit though... I recognise clearly how it all works now".

Kevin has also mocked the tabloid reports on Twitter, writing: "I'm trying to piece the story together from all the 'sources' that have said things. Although I did kind of say the truth in my statement. But maybe tabloid [journalists] don't believe what they read... must know something we don't".

Kevin announced his departure from Strictly earlier this week, saying that he wants to leave the show "on a high".

"The time has come to move on and focus on other areas of my life and career," he said. "I want to thank all of the pros for inspiring me every day as well as all of my celebrity partners."

He ended his statement with: "To me, Strictly always has been and always will be the best show on TV and has been an absolute dream and honour to be a part of.

Stacey previously shared her reaction to Kevin's news on Instagram, saying on her Story: "Without question, you are the most successful pro Strictly's ever had. That's because you work so bloody hard! And you're kind and you're full of grace, and you're so talented. I cannot wait to see what you've got coming up for us next. Well done, darling."

Kevin, who was often referred to by fans as 'Kevin from Grimsby', first competed on the show in 2013 and has partnered Susanna Reid, Frankie Bridge, Kellie Bright, Louise Redknapp, Susan Calman and Anneka Rice, as well as taking home the Glitterball Trophy with Stacey in 2018.

Strictly Come Dancing will return for an all-new series later this year on BBC One.
