Royal heartbreak: The devastating announcement that shows Kate will lose close royal ally - Express

The Duchess of Cambridge is known to share a really close friendship with Autumn Phillips, who is married to the Queen’s grandson Peter. But after last month’s announcement that the Phillips were set to divorce, Kate is set to lose a friend from the Royal Family. The move sparked fears for the Royal Family, as it came at a time when they were at a crisis point.

According to Cheat Sheet, royal commentator Angela Mollard said: “Kate was really good friends with Autumn.

“In fact, she went to Autumn’s wedding as one of her first official engagements on her own in 2008 because Prince William was in Kenya.

“She sort of represented the couple and has been really good friends with Autumn ever since. It’s very hard for someone like Kate. You’ve got your own direct family and then you’ve got friends who you would trust, and I don’t imagine there’d be many of them.

“You have to know that anything you say doesn’t get passed on. The special creed within the Royal Family of non-disclosure means that speaking to someone like Autumn with more depth is refreshing.

“They have so many shallow conversations every day, they have to speak so generically about everything, she has to think about what she’s saying all the time.

“For Kate, properly talking to someone like Autumn must be incredibly valuable. Being in the Royal Family at times must be incredibly lonely, to have allies is very important.”

It comes at a time when another of Kate’s allies - Prince Harry - is also leaving the Royal Family.

He and his wife Meghan Markle at set to stand down from Royal Family duties on March 31.

On Sunday, Her Majesty and Prince Harry held a four-hour heart-to-heart talk about their future relationship.

The Queen told Harry over lunch that he and Meghan would be able to rejoin the fold.

A royal source said: “The Queen had a lot to talk to Harry about and this was the ideal time for them to both say their piece.

“When Harry and Meghan announced they wanted to quit it all happened very quickly and it was very stressful for all concerned.

“Sunday was the first time the Queen has had the chance to talk to Harry on his own and really find out what his plans are. It was a much more relaxed environment and they were both able to speak their mind.”

The source told The Sun the Queen was “very upset” about Harry and Meghan leaving the family as she wanted to “see more” of their son Archie.

However, she is said to “accept” that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have “made their mind up” to live in North America.
