Prince Charles joins nation in saluting NHS staff during his fight against coronavirus - Express

At 8pm on Thursday the nation came together as one, as millions of people stood at their front doors and open windows to show their gratitude for those on the frontline of the fight against COVID-19. Clarence House posted a video on their Instagram Stories showing Britain’s future king taking part in the nationwide acclaim of its NHS heroes. Charles’ appearance in the video clip is the first sighting of the Prince since it was announced on Wednesday that he was infected with the deadly virus.

The Duke of Cornwall looked dapper in an open necked shirt and jacket with a handkerchief in his pocket.

Camilla was also filmed clapping separately as she looked out of an open window.

The couple are self-isolating at their 53,000 acre Birkhall estate in Scotland, although they are living apart.

The Duchess of Cornwall has so far tested negative for the virus, which on Thursday claimed another 113 lives, the highest single day increase in the UK since the outbreak began.

The Prince of Wales, 71, developed symptoms over the weekend after travelling to Balmoral but “otherwise remains in good health.”

He is the first British royal to contract the disease and falls into one of the highest risk categories.

Despite this, he is said to be in “good spirits” and bearing his illness well as he occupies himself with his work.

There has been much speculation that the Prince of Wales became infected with the virus after meeting Prince Albert of Monaco at a conference.

“I was at the other end of the table, way far away.

“We nodded hello to one another, so I don’t think I can really be accused of contaminating him.”

Monaco’s head of state added that Prince Charles continued with other engagements after the WaterAid event, a fact confirmed by Clarence house.

The Prince of Wales is expected to remain for at least two weeks in Scotland while he recuperates.

He is said to be fully engaged with his work and has been busy making video calls.

One recipient of such a call was the former Labour Foreign Secretary David Miliband, who spoke to the Prince on Wednesday.

Charles is a patron of the UK branch of the International Rescue Committee (IRC), which is headed up by Mr Miliband.

Mr Miliband told Sky News: “I had a scheduled call with the Prince of Wales yesterday, obviously getting the news in the morning of his coronavirus situation made me wonder whether he would postpone but he went ahead with the call.

“He was in very good spirits, he was obviously very engaged with the situation facing people in the UK.”
