Dan Walker, 42, opened up about his shocked reaction to Dev Griffin and Dianne Buswell’s unexpected Strictly Come Dancing 2019 elimination after he spent the evening watching the show in Elstree Studios last night. The BBC Breakfast host admitted although he was happy to see his colleague Mike Bushell and fellow sports pundit Alex Scott make it through to next week of the dance competition, he was stunned after “one of the best dancers” left the competition. Dan wrote in view of his 580,000 Twitter followers: “There was serious shock in the #Strictly ballroom after that one - and quite a few tears too. “Glad to see @mikebreakfast & @AlexScott through but surprised that one of the best dancers has gone #DevAndDianne #StrictlyResults @dev_101 @dbuzz6589.”
Fans took to the comments section of Dan’s post to share their thoughts on the result.
One person wrote: “Great to see @mikebreakfast through... don’t believe Dev should have been in bottom 2... far worse dancers over marked last night.”
Another furious viewer added: “Pathetic! Makes a mockery of the show.”
“Standard was so high this week. Bit of a shock. Nobody is safe,” a third Twitter user commented.
Dev and Dianne were voted out of the competition unanimously by the judges after facing Emma Weymouth and Aljaz Skorjanec in the dance-off.
When speaking to Strictly host Tess Daly after the result was announced, Dev said: “I’m not going to lie I’m absolutely gutted, but learning how to dance, getting to hang out with Dianne and hanging out with the professionals and the other celebrities has been incredible.
“Thank you. I’ve loved it.”
Dianne, who looked very tearful, gushed about her partner: “He has been absolutely amazing and honestly his work ethic is insane.
“I have seen him everywhere practising, and I could not have asked for a better partner.
“Thank you so much for giving me all your time and effort and, really, this boy has so much talent I’m just really sad he couldn’t get to show you guys any more because he’s so talented and thank you very, very much.”
When the duo took to the floor for their final dance together they seemed overcome with emotion as Dianne sobbed while Dev tried to comfort her with a hug.
