Pride of Britain Awards: David James insists there is no romance between him and Strictly Come Dancing pro partner Nadiya Bychkova
David James has insisted there is no romance between him and his Strictly Come Dancing professional partner Nadiya Bychkova.
The former footballer, 49, and the dancer, 30, attended the Pride of Britain Awards at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on Monday where they put on a stylish display on the red carpet.
David insisted the pair's relationship is strictly platonic as he praised Nadiya for showing him the ropes of ballroom dancing.

Speaking to The Sun Online, he said: 'No romance, no. That wasn’t part of the deal. But she’s a great teacher.'
David and Nadiya were the fourth couple eliminated from this year's series when they landed in the bottom two opposite Mike Bushell and Katya Jones.
When asked by host Tess Daly about his time on the show, David said: 'Oh I’ve loved it. I feel so bad I’ve let Nadiya down in a sense. I’ve enjoyed it but I’ve put some weight on though.'
Nadiya was asked if she had any words for David and insisted she was incredibly proud of him.

She said: 'He’s done so well. I’m so proud of you. From the first day he couldn’t lift his elbows up or stand straight and now he’s delivered such an amazing jive. I’m so proud.'
David looked dapper for the awards show, donning a navy blazer with a matching waistcoat and trousers.
He paired it with a dark shirt and a purple tie, completing his look with a pair of box-fresh white trainers.

Nadiya looked nothing short of sensational for the evening in a slinky black dress with a sheer detail and a large ruffled train at the bottom.
The garment also featured a navy detail along the torso while she styled her platinum blonde locks into an updo.
David is in a relationship with childhood sweetheart Amanda Salmon and previously told the Daily Mirror he was not concerned about the infamous Strictly curse which has seen celebrities get into relationships with their dance partners.
He said: 'My view is that, in life itself, if two people are attracted to each other then something might happen, and it doesn’t need to be Strictly that causes that
'I think the situation with Nadiya and myself… there’s a goal in this. Nadiya is a fantastic teacher, I want to be a fantastic student, but we’re on Strictly Come Dancing, not Love Island or some other show where people get themselves together.
'As I said, I think the chemistry between the two of us is perfect because we know what we’re here for and we’re enjoying the process, even though being in the dance-off isn’t fun.'
