Prince Harry's tearful phone call with Chelsy Davy before marrying Meghan Markle revealed - Express

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle married in their stunning royal wedding in May 2018. During the ceremony, the Duke of Sussex melted hearts as he appeared to shed a tear of joy as he married his bride. However, in the days before he tied the knot Prince Harry is also said to have had an emotional moment with ex-girlfriend Chelsy Davy.

Royal author Katie Nicholl, writing in Vanity Fair last year, spoke to friends of Ms Davy and the prince about the tearful phone call.

A source told Ms Nicholl: “It was their final call, a parting call in which they both acknowledged Harry was moving on.

“Chelsy was quite emotional about it all, she was in tears and almost didn’t go to the wedding.

“In the end, she went and promised Harry she wouldn’t try and gatecrash the party.”

Ms Nicholl adds: "Though reports claimed Davy was there, a family friend told Vanity Fair that she didn’t get an invite to the party."

Both Ms Davy and Cressida Bonas, who dated Harry from 2012 to 2014, were in St George’s Chapel for the royal wedding ceremony.

However neither were invited to the evening bash, which was held in Frogmore House on the Windsor estate.

Another friend of the Duke told the author: “Some of Harry’s pals were a bit surprised not to get the golden ticket to the evening party.

“There was actually another wedding that weekend that a lot of them were invited to, so they got to have fun in any case.”

The prince has known Sky Sports presenter Ms Pinkham for more than 10 years and they stay in regular touch.

A source told her: “Natalie was a bit surprised not to be there.

“She and Harry still talk so it was a surprise for her not to be invited at all.”

Harry dated Chelsy Davy for seven years, before they ended the relationship in 2010.

Ms Davy was still invited to Kate Middleton and Prince William’s royal wedding in 2011, despite having split up with Harry by then.

However, according to Ms Nicholl, she realised “once and for all” that she could not be royal at the 2011 ceremony.

In her biography “Harry: Life, Loss and Love”, Ms Nicholl writes: “Being part of the royal wedding had made Chelsy’s mind up once and for all.

“The life of a royal bride was not for her and she told Harry she could never make the sacrifices Kate had made.”

The Zimbabwean-born Ms Davy has also spoken about how she “couldn’t cope” with the media attention that came with being romantically linked to the prince.

She told the Daily Mail in 2016: “It was so full-on: crazy and scary and uncomfortable. I found it very difficult when it was bad. I couldn't cope.

"I was trying to be a normal kid and it was horrible."

Ms Davy returned home to Zimbabwe in the aftermath of the break-up, and now divides her time between Africa and the UK.
