Jess Impiazzi has spoken out about how she has looked to follow her acting dream after a 'reality TV distraction'.
The 30-year-old star of Celebrity Big Brother and Ex on the Beach was originally looking to make waves in the acting world and had been given a scholarship to the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts.
Jess had to change her path after her mother went blind and she decided to become her carer before going down the road of reality TV, in the hope of getting her name out there.
She has since bemoaned the reality TV route saying it took her the "wrong way" but what it did was put her in touch with a soap legend who inspired Jess to follow her dream.
Speaking exclusively to Mirror Online, Jess said that her time in the Celebrity Big Brother house with Coronation Street star Amanda Barrie, was enough to bring some clarity of where she wanted to go after leaving the CBB house.
Jess said: "I am obsessed with Amanda Barrie, she was 82 in the house and was such an idol of mine with such a long, amazing career.
"I was talking to her about [acting] a lot and I had got to a stage where I thought I had ruined any opportunity to do what I really want to be doing.
"I was talking to Amanda about it, she said ‘don’t be silly, do this, you’ve got this’ and gave me a pep talk in the house a few times."
After reaching the final of CBB, Jess came out of the house with a new determination.
She continued: "When I came out, I was determined to try my hardest and work my butt off, so I went back to acting classes in Manchester, which was where I was living at the time."
An opportunity came to star in a new movie, The Seven, which was being co-produced by Eastenders newcomer Amar Adatia and Superman star Dean Cain.
Jess said: "An audition came up for this part and I got it which has given me my first step back into it, so I need to thank Amanda Barrie for the pep talk.
"This is the dream - I have always felt there was something missing, I was having a breakdown every few months because I wasn’t getting acting work and feeling I was not on the right path."
Jess is hoping that this movie will be the springboard for more acting work and she has her focus set on landing more roles.
She told us: "I am hoping with the film coming out that things will start rolling for me and I can get a Netflix TV series or BBC and ITV, as they do some cracking British dramas."
There was some work to be done though, as Jess said that she was starting from a disadvantaged position.
She revealed: "I want to get the public to change their perception of me - yes, I was a bit stupid on reality TV but I have been planning for years to be part of a profession that I would love to be working in.
"I felt the reality TV diversion has been a hindrance because you don’t get taken seriously.
"When I did it I was kind of in a funny place. During my 20’s I did not enjoy myself, I was not a happy person and with who I was.
"I felt I have missed out on a lot of opportunities after having to leave theatre school and I wrote myself off and didn’t have the self-belief."
Jess has taken her life by the scruff of the neck and as she embraces her 30's, she has a new outlook.
She continued: "Now I have got older, I have realised that you cannot expect others to believe in you if you cannot believe in yourself."
The Seven premieres on Friday, October 25 and Jess stars alongside Gary Webster, Dean Cain and Amar Adatia.
There are also cameo appearances by Sinitta and YouTube star Amber 'Doig' Thorne.
The movie has been released in time for Halloween and will be available on Sky Store, Amazon and iTunes.
It will also be available on Netflix later next year.
