Megan McKenna reveals it's difficult to be taken seriously as a singer coming from reality TV - Daily Mail

The X Factor: Celebrity: Megan McKenna says her reality TV past makes it difficult for her to be taken seriously and insists previous music career is NOT an advantage

Megan McKenna has revealed it is difficult to be taken seriously as a music artist coming from reality TV and doesn't feel she has an unfair advantage over her X Factor: Celebrity contestants despite having previously released an album.

The former TOWIE star, 27, is known for her appearances on other shows like Celebrity Big Brother and Ex on the Beach and believes people have a preconceived 'perception' of her that could be difficult to change.

She told MailOnline: ‘I feel like I’ve got a lot of pressure because I’ve been really trying to crack the music industry for a long time now.

‘And I think coming off of reality shows, people have a perception of me and they judge me on shows I’ve done and it’s really difficult to be taken seriously.

‘So I feel like coming on this show, people can see how much this means to me and they will take my music seriously. That’s why I definitely wanted to do it.’

Megan released her debut studio album Story of Me in 2018 but doesn't think her past recording experience gives her an advantage over the other celebrities.

She said: ‘I wouldn’t - obviously I sing, and I’ve been recording in the past and stuff, but it’s never been on the scale of what this could be. This is for a major record label.

‘In the past I’ve had a very small independent label help me do an album and I’m so grateful for that, but as anybody knows in the music industry, that is down there.

‘I’m just the same as everybody else. This is my dream and I’m just hoping that this show can just be the start really, because I want to do this full time.’

Megan told how she made a decision to take a step away from the small screen for a while as she focuses all her energies on her music career.

She said: ‘I chose to come off TV for a while. I just really wanted to be taken seriously in my music and I feel like I’ve done the reality shows and I’ve loved it, but sometimes you just need to pull away and take time for yourself.

'I feel happy now and I’m ready to start a new show. What better way to start than doing the X Factor? This is my dream show.'

Meanwhile, fellow contestant Victoria Ekanoye has told how she and Love Actually star Olivia Olson are planning on forming a girl band if they don't make it in the competition as solo artists.

The Coronation Street star, 36, told MailOnline: ‘I’ve already made some life-long friends. If all else fails we [Victoria and Olivia Olson] are forming a girl group. We’re going to steal some of the other acts.

‘If we get voted off we can just get the others. You heard it here first. It’s like Blazin’ Squad, So Solid crew – there will be 10 of us in front of Simon like, “what? We’re SClub 24,' she said, laughing.

Victoria told how her fellow Coronation Street castmembers are supportive of her X Factor stint.

She said: ‘It’s a nice family we’ve created and the girls are fiercely loyal, which is amazing.

'That doesn’t always happen in a work place, but they’ve very loyal and they’ll jump to your defence if anything happens. If we go through, then they’ll be there.’

The TV star already has an idea of what she would like to do after The X Factor, saying she hopes to marry acting and singing in the future.

She said: ‘I never want to stop acting. I love what I do, I’d love to marry the two with things like Dream girls and movie musicals and things like that.'

Fellow Coronation Street star Jonny Labey has got his head in the game for the competition, saying he is trying to 'adjust his mindset' for the show.

He said: ‘I am beyond stoked. It was such an experience, I'm really taking on board and trying to adjust my mindset as well with how I view myself and embracing who I am as a person, what it is that I'm doing, and my purpose, and the message I can try and say or prove to other people about things.

Also taking part in the show are V5, a girl group made up of social media influencers Alondra Martinez, Natalie Valerin, Sofia Oliveira, Wendii Sarmiento, and Laura Buitrago.

The ladies did not know each other before taking part in the show and only met about a week before their audition at Simon Cowell's house.

Wendii said: 'Of course we are getting to know each other more and more, we are always hanging out but we have only known each other a few weeks now.’

The group felt confident about how their audition went, with Alondra saying: 'I think because of the feedback that we had from Simon, it was pretty good, I think.'
