Casualty cancelled: BBC medical drama won’t air tonight - here’s why - Express

Casualty has been airing on the BBC since 1986 but tonight, the latest episode of the medical drama will not be airing. It comes as the TV guide has experienced a shake-up and pushed Casualty out of the way to make room for an extra long Strictly Come Dancing.

Tonight, instead of tuning in to find out the latest drama in the Emergency Department, BBC One viewers will tune in to see Strictly come to a conclusion.

For 13 weeks, 15 celebrity contestants have been battling it out on the dance floor in hope of lifting the Glitterball Trophy.

The nation’s favourite dancing competition will be on for just over two hours and will see Karim Zeroual, Kelvin Fletcher or Emma Barton be crowned the 2019 winner.

Strictly will then be followed by Michael McIntrye’s Big Show, thus meaning no room for Casualty as the BBC 10 o’clock news will conclude the early evening programmes.

But fans needn’t fear as it will return next Saturday evening for the next instalment.

Every year, there is usually a soap baby born at Christmas and Casualty are setting up the storyline next weekend.

During Saturday night’s episode, BBC One viewers will tune in to see Ruby Spark’s (Maddy Hill) estranged sister Violette turn up in the ambulance bay, heavily pregnant.

While everyone awaits the impending arrival of a newborn, there is another celebration about to begin in the Emergency Department - David Hide (played by Jason Durr) and Rosa Cadenas (Jacey Salles) are going to be getting married.

But before they even make it down the aisle, David discovers everything Rosa and her mum have ever said is a lie.

As he comes to terms with the truth, Charlie Fairhead (Derek Thompson) is planning an early Christmas, but with a deteriorating Duffy (Cathy Shipton), whose mood is fluctuating between upset and outright anger, he is struggling.

Will a visit from Robyn help?

Casualty returns to BBC One next Saturday night at 9.20pm.
