It might've represented the LGBTQ+ community in ways that Star Wars has never done before, but The Rise of Skywalker doesn't feature the same-sex kiss in Singapore screenings.
According to BBC News, this groundbreaking moment between two women in the movie has been removed due to fears it would spark a higher age rating in the country.
A spokesperson from the IMDA (Infocomm Media Development Authority) confirmed: "The applicant has omitted a brief scene which under the film classification guidelines would require a higher rating."
At the moment, it's unclear whether Disney has executed this movement in any other countries, but gay sex is illegal in Singapore and same-sex marriages are not recognised.
Previously, director JJ Abrams discussed how he saw the same-sex kiss scene as "an opportunity" to celebrate all walks of life while solidifying Star Wars' position as a franchise anyone can enjoy.
"It doesn't matter what your sexual preference is, doesn't matter what your race/species, whether you're organic or synthetic, Star Wars is for everyone and knowing that there hadn't been a representation like that – it doesn't take away from anyone, it just shows that Star Wars is for all of us," he stated.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is out now.
