Kate, Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William joined forced with Great British Bake-Off host Mary Berry to pay tribute to charity workers in the run-up to Christmas. But during the BBC documentary A Berry Royal Christmas, viewers spotted what appeared to be an "awkward" moment between Kate and William as the Duke of Cambridge tried to put his hand on his wife's shoulder. The Duke and Duchess can be seen chatting to some guests when William raises his hand in an affectionate gesture toward the Duchess but she is seen seemingly flinching away from him to dodge his hand.
Viewers were shocked by the apparent snub, with one social media user writing on Twitter: "Kate shaking off William's hand on her shoulder during #ABerryRoyalChristmas."
Another wrote: "PDA ... a “no-no” for Kate Middleton when William put his hand on her shoulder! What just happened?:
One user commented the Duchess of Cambridge "moved with a quickness" to avoid Prince William laying his hand on her left shoulder.
One viewer simply commented: "What just happened here???? Ouch!"

And another Twitter user wrote: "Awkward! Too awkward!! They should have cut it out!"
But some social media users defended Kate's reaction to the attempt of PDA, with one viewer suggesting the Duchess had flinched because she had not seen William's hand coming closer.
They wrote: "This is not about PDA here, he has done that with Kate a lot in the past.
"But she kinda always saw that coming. Here it’s just a natural rejection for a tiny second. She is not faking it."
Judi continued: “Also the rift between William and Harry must have caused emotional upset for both of the brothers, and that could have meant William being even more grateful for his wife’s support than usual.
“Also, with two children off to school and their latest adorable baby Louis, it’s probably only right that William relaxes a little and uses touches and tie-signs with Kate that signal respect as well as love for her in public.”
Ms James also said: “There seems to have been some intrinsic changes in the body language of Kate and husband William since the birth of their third child.
“Kate seems to have increased in confidence here at their first public outing together since the birth and William is unusually tactile, flashing some sweet ‘pinging’ smiles at his wife to suggest he's incredibly pleased to have her at his side.”
