Kate was all smiles as she walked side by side with her husband Prince William and Prince Charles from Sandringham House to the nearby chapel regularly attended by the Queen when she is in Norfolk. The Duchess of Cambridge looked typical festive wrapped up in a beige coat, smiling at the crowd of well-wishers as she held by hand little Princess Charlotte, who debuted alongside her brother in Sandringham today.
“It's the picture all royal fans want to see.
“The royals walking to church on Christmas Day is a rite of passage and so William and Kate didn't want to expose their children too early, but they feel they’re old enough now."
Royals usually wait for their children to turn four or five before introducing them to the crowd waiting outside St Mary Magdalene Church.
DON'T MISS
Prince William first attended service in Norfolk aged five, while her brother Harry was four.
This is the eight Christmas the Duchess of Cambridge celebrates with the Queen and senior members of the Royal Family.
Kate joined the House of Windsor in April 2011, upon marrying Prince William.
The Duchess only skipped celebrations at Sandringham House on two occasions since her wedding - in 2012 and 2016, when the Cambridges decided to stay with the Middletons in Berkshire.
This move paved the way to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s decision to spend today with Doria Ragland, the Duchess of Sussex’ mother, rather than the Queen.
Meghan and Harry, who became parents for the first time in April, announced in November they would not stay at Sandringham over Christmas, a decision “in line with precedent set” by other royals, a spokesperson for the Sussexes said.
In a statement, they added: “Having spent the last two Christmases at Sandringham, [the couple] will spend the holiday this year, as a new family, with the Duchess’ mother Doria.
“This decision is in line with precedent set previously by other members of the Royal Family, and has the support of Her Majesty The Queen.”
After service, the Cambridges will join the Queen for a lavish lunch at Sandringham House.
The Christmas lunch is traditionally followed by a nap and a stroll, and in the afternoon the royals gather around a table to play board games.
