James Bond fans are convinced Lashana Lynch is set to take over from Daniel Craig as the first female 007 following the release of a new character poster.

The franchise newcomer, who is playing brand new character Nomi in the film, is rumoured to be taking over James Bond's secret agent number after he leaves MI6 - but it is not known whether she will become the central figure when Craig bows out.

The 32-year-old British actress does little to dispel the claims in the new imagery, wearing a navy spy suit complete with leather waist and gun holster.

Fans have been getting excited about the poster and are convinced that Lashana is going to be the star of the next film, making history as the first black female to hold the titular role.

One fan shared, 'lashana lynch as the new 007 i love it i love it', while another posted, 'Oh my I am officially in love with Lashana Lynch as 007.'

A third enthused: 'Two thoughts: 1.) Can't wait to see what kind of villain Rami Malek is playing. 2.) If you wouldn't happily watch a 007 spin off starring Lashana Lynch based on this photo alone, you are crazy.'

The Daily Mail first reported Lashana will be taking over Bond's secret agent number after he leaves MI6.

The story begins with Bond retired in Jamaica, but spymaster M – played by Ralph Fiennes – calls him back in desperation to tackle a new global crisis.

A movie insider said: 'There is a pivotal scene at the start of the film where M says 'Come in 007', and in walks Lashana who is black, beautiful and a woman.

'It's a popcorn-dropping moment. Bond is still Bond but he's been replaced as 007 by this stunning woman.

'Bond, of course, is sexually attracted to the new female 007 and tries his usual seduction tricks, but is baffled when they don't work on a brilliant, young black woman who basically rolls her eyes at him and has no interest in jumping into his bed. Well, certainly not at the beginning.'

No Time To Die is co-written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge who was brought on board to sprinkle her magic on the script for the 25th movie in the film franchise based on Ian Fleming's hit novels.

The film had previously been given the working title Shatterhand, however the title has since been changed to match Bond's more iconic film titles.

Production finally kicked off in April of this year, though it had already been delayed by several months following the departure of original director Danny Boyle.

No Time To Die is released in UK cinemas on April 2, 2020 and in the US on April 8, 2020.
