Royal fans praise the Queen after Charles and Camilla post heartwarming Instagram update - Express

NATO and world leaders attended a banquet at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday to mark the 70th anniversary of the military alliance. Charles and Camilla were alongside the Queen, as they welcomed world leaders to the sparkling gala evening. Afterwards they posted a statement to their Instagram along with a number of photos.

The statement read: “Tonight, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall attended a reception at Buckingham Palace hosted by The Queen to mark 70 years of the NATO Alliance.

“Her Majesty and Their Royal Highnesses welcomed Heads of State and Government of NATO countries, and their spouses or partners, in the Music Room.

“An official photograph of The Queen, The Prince of Wales, NATO Secretary General and Heads of State and Government from countries who form the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation was taken.”

Photos accompanying the post showed a relaxed and smiling Queen chatting to Donald and Melania Trump.

The monarch was also snapped shaking hands with the Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau.

Camilla was photographed sharing pleasantries and shaking hands with the German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

An official photograph of the NATO leaders with the Queen and Prince Charles was also posted to the site.

It showed a smiling Boris Johnson sitting next to Her Majesty on her left.

A fourth enthused: “Incredible what Her Majesty does at her stage in life.”

Ahead of the reception, the US President and the First Lady met Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall for afternoon tea at Clarence House.

Camilla wore a red dress teamed with a black jacket.

Melania looked stylish in a yellow cape dress with purple heels.

Charles and Camilla greeted the US President and his wife and posed for pictures before moving to private quarters for tea.

Charles also met other NATO leaders earlier, including Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Norway Erna Solberg and Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte.

It comes as NHS workers and anti-war activists have led a protest targeting Trump and NATO in central London.

Hundreds of protesters gathered in Trafalgar Square before marching towards Buckingham Palace.

Earlier today as the NATO summit kicked off, Trump insisted the US wants “nothing to do with” the NHS following claims it could be used as a bargaining chip in post-Brexit trade talks.
