Note: Spoilers lie ahead for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. May the force be with you.
Star Wars director JJ Abrams has confirmed a very crucial story arc for John Boyega's Finn in The Rise of Skywalker.
Following a recent Q&A, he spoke about what Finn wanted to tell Rey when they were seemingly drowning in quicksand.
No, it wasn't a love declaration – a theory also denied by Boyega himself – it was that Finn is Force-sensitive.
A Star Wars fan who attended the Academy screening of The Rise of Skywalker tweeted confirmation of Abrams' intentions behind Finn's attempted confession.

Abrams also added that despite his plans for Finn's powers, in the movie itself he wanted to keep things open to interpretation about what he was going to tell Rey.
Clues to Finn's abilities are sprinkled throughout the movie – including when he senses Kylo Ren's approach, when he ascertains which Star Destroyer is leading the enemy fleet with a "feeling", and when he senses Rey's death on Exogol after she defeats her grandfather, Emperor Palpatine.
So while the film doesn't deal with Finn's abilities as directly as it could have done, we can only hope for more to be made of his skills in the future – will he become a Jedi?
We'd also like to know more about the relatively new skill of force healing, used by Rey more than once in Rise of Skywalker and also seen in The Mandalorian.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is out now in the UK and US.
