Inspirational fashion model Mama Cax who lost her leg after a battle with cancer dies aged 30 - The Sun

AMERICAN-Haitian fashion model Mama Cax has tragically died following her battle with cancer.

Real name Cacsmy Brutus, the 30-year-old motivational speaker, blogger and model was diagnosed with cancer at 14 and given just three weeks to live.

Resulting surgeries led to Cax losing her right leg.

She had flown into London from New York for a photo shoot when she suddenly fell ill.

Cax was rushed to hospital suffering from severe abdominal pain and passed away on Monday, her heartbroken family said.

A message was posted to the model's Instagram page earlier today, it said: "It is with deep regret and immense sadness that we announce the passing of Cacsmy Brutus (Mama Cax).

"Mama Cax spent the past week in the hospital and unfortunately on Monday, December 16, 2019 she left this world.

"To say that Cax was a fighter would be an understatement.

"As a cancer survivor she had grown accustomed to taking on life's several challenges head on and successfully.

"It is with the same grit that she fought her last days on earth."

Tributes have poured in for the inspirational model.

Rihanna wrote: "A queen. A force. A powerhouse beauty that brought her strength to the @savagexfenty stage this year inspiring so many across the globe. Rest In Power sis @mama_cax."

Glamour magazine posted a picture of her with the caption: "Mama Cax was a crusader for visibility and change in the fashion industry.

"We honoured this model and activist as one of our 2019 Women of the Year All Year and are devastated by her loss."

Mama Cax was a "trailblazer" for women of colour and differently abled women in the fashion industry.

She had spent her career campaigning tirelessly for more inclusion on the cat walk.

Taking to Instagram, in November, she said: "I started using social media to talk about my body Insecurities after childhood cancer left me with a million scars (mostly emotional) and an amputated leg," she shared on Instagram in November.

"The question I hate the most is 'who is your role model' - never had one until I became my own role model BUT I admire strong and fierce people who use their privileges to uplift others."#

On a separate post she once wrote: "Being bionic can’t possibly be boring."
