Dramatic photographs show Katherine Jenkins after she intervened in a street robbery, only to then fall victim to a mugging herself.

The 39-year-old was caught up in a street theft in London yesterday on her way to perform at the Straubenzee Memorial charity carol service at St Luke's Church.

On her way to the event, she had been walking down King's Road in Chelsea at about 3.15pm and witnessed an old woman being mugged.

Admirably, Jenkins then stepped in to help the woman, in what witnesses described as an 'extremely violent' incident.

As a result of her stepping in, she was then mugged herself. The songstress was visibly close to tears as she waited for officers to arrive at the scene.

Jenkins waved them down and despite the distress of the situation, she was later able to help police identify the attackers.

As soon as the police van drove around the corner, the two thieves were caught.

The older girl was seen trying to escape and was shouting and screaming at the top of her voice while Christmas shoppers looked on aghast.

Further photographs showed three Scotland Yard officers leading away one woman wearing a hooded jumper and trainers, who appeared to be protesting.

A second woman wearing glasses was also seen in handcuffs near the scene as three police officers spoke to her next to the entrance to a building.

Scotland Yard today confirmed to MailOnline that police were called at 15.10pm on Wednesday after a robbery was reported.

Officers attended and arrested two 15-year-old girls on suspicion of robbery. They stated a female member of the public had tried to intervene.

The force added that an officer was assaulted but did not require hospital treatment.

One of them was re-arrested on Thursday, 5 December in connection with the same incident after further information was received.

Jenkins's spokesperson confirmed the incident and told MailOnline that the star had seen the old woman being attacked and had gone over to assist her, before falling victim herself.

After speaking to officers for a while, Jenkins seemed relived that the ordeal had been dealt with and smiled as she chatted to them

As the investigation into the attack is on-going Jenkins's team were unable to comment further.

The service Jenkins was on her way to was organised by the Henry van Straubenzee Memorial Fund - set up shortly after the 18-year-old, who was a close friend of Princes William and Harry, died in a car crash in 2002.

It comes less than a month after fashion designer Amanda Wakeley was mugged of her watch less than a mile away by axe-wielding moped robbers.

Thieves let the tyres of 57-year-old Wakeley’s car down at Chelsea Harbour, stalling her, before riding up and threatening her with an axe on November 13.

Welsh mezzo-soprano singer Jenkins is married to Andrew Levitas, 42.

King's Road became famous in the 1960s for being at the centre of London's fashion scene, and has been associated in recent years with reality show Made In Chelsea.
