The Queen attended a carol service without her husband by her side on Sunday night.
Prince Charles said his father was “being looked after very well”.
Speaking on a visit to Fishlake, South Yorkshire, Prince Charles added: “At the moment that’s all we know.”
The Duke of Edinburgh is expected to remain in the hospital for a few days and it is not known whether he will be able to return to Sandringham for Christmas Day.
A source told the Sunday Mirror: “The Duke does not like a fuss and desperately wants to get out of hospital and back home to Norfolk as soon as possible.
“Christmas is a time when family come together and the royals are no different in that regard.”
