Finally, after what seemed to be about 100 years, Disney Plus has finally launched in the UK.
The Mouse House’s rival to Netflix has been much-touted by fans, as it incorporates not only Disney’s entire library of animation classics and TV shows, but also all the films by subsidiary studios Pixar and Marvel, as well as the entire 30 seasons of The Simpsons, primed and ready to binge.
Oh, and let’s not forget The Mandalorian – the first live-action Star Wars series, available exclusively on the site (along with the first eight films of the saga).
From Iron Man to X-Men to seven little men, the new streaming platform really does seem to have it all – but we’re cynical at heart, so we thought it would be best to do a deep-dive into Disney Plus to see if it really is as promising as it seems.

The sheer amount of content available is overwhelming
The main attraction for Disney Plus for many people is the sheer size of its content library.
For both hardcore and casual fans alike – it’s got everything. Marvel, Pixar, The Simpsons, Star Wars, Disney itself…basically everything is covered.
But when you first log onto the site, this is the first thing that hits you – there is just so. Much. Stuff.
This is obviously a massive plus, but also a bit overwhelming. What do you watch first? How many things can you add in to your watchlist at once? It’s basically a modern, digital Library of Alexandria, but instead of the books of great philosophers, you have Woody from Toy Story alongside Elsa and Anna from Frozen.
The site is easy to use and navigate – if you know what you’re looking for
Speaking of being overwhelmed, the biggest con against this, of course, is that you can get a bit lost.
The home page is comprehensive enough, but to truly discover the size of the Disney Plus library, you have to use the search tool.
While easy enough to use (see above, which we used to find our favourite Disney film) and navigate for even the more tech illiterate, to save yourself getting lost in hours of scrolling, it might be a good plan to already have an idea of what you want to watch before you log on.

Or, binge Hannah Montana from beginning to end.
Setting up multiple profiles is simple enough
Much like it’s closest rival Netflix, Disney Plus is designed to be used by families.
As such, when you first sign in to your account, you can set up a number of other profiles for other members of your tribe, or friends, so they don’t cut right into your Simpsons deep-watch and choose another episode.
Much like searching through the site, it’s simple enough to do – just click on your profile button in the right-hand corner.
You can even pick distinct avatars for each profile – the fight over who gets Baby Yoda begins now.
The Mandalorian’s roll-out is still pretty infuriating
Disney Plus has taken a long time to arrive in the UK, having first launched in the US in November of last year.
Along with its debut four months ago, the streaming service also dropped one of its biggest commodities, The Mandalorian.
The first official live-action Star Wars TV series, the show swerved the Netflix model of dropping all of its first season at once, and instead decided to drop new episodes in weekly intervals (which was a good idea at the time since we all got obsessed with Baby Yoda).
But it’s a bit disappointing, and a little frustrating, to see the show stick to this roll-out in the UK. As of the time of writing, the first two episodes are available to watch and the rest will follow week-by-week.

While this may be interesting enough for new fans who come to discover the show through Disney Plus, for the rest of us who finally wanted a space to binge all the season at once in glorious HD, it’s a bit of a bug-bear.
Verdict
By virtue of its sheer size, Disney Plus is more than a match for Netflix in the UK.
With a vast library of everything you could ever need – from beloved animated films, to superhero blockbusters to classic kids TV sitcoms – it would be very easy to get lost in the might of Disney Plus, but despite its size the site does a good job of offering a streamlined look at its content, which users and deep-dive into via the search bar.
While we may have to wait to finally binge all of The Mandalorian – as well as the arrival of Rise of Skywalker and Frozen 2 to complete our collections – Disney Plus’ arrival in the UK is more than welcome and it honestly couldn’t have come at a better time.
Now, if you’ll excuse us, we’re off to binge all 30 seasons of The Simpsons from beginning to end.
