Here at Far Out Magazine Towers we found ourselves in a heated debate, furiously trying to settle the argument of ‘greatest Oasis album of all time’ when somebody thought it was a smart idea to write the article.
Then, as if we weren’t finding it hard enough to settle the stinking conversation, our intern popped up with the ill-advised comment: “But what about the solo stuff? And Beady Eye? Or Noel’s High Flying Birds?” and it sent us over the edge. We’ll never find an agreement and we’d had enough of trying so it was time to find an alternative.
A quick surf of the ol’ internet almost settled our differences with the help of Mr Liam Gallagher himself, for surely his opinion would rule over our divisive list with an iron fist? Maybe, but probably not… but Definitely Maybe.
While taking part in a hefty promotional campaign ahead of the release of his debut solo album As You Were in 2017, Gallagher sat down with NME and had the very same argument we’ve been having all day; “Can you rank your albums from best to worst, Liam?” journalist Mark Beaumont asked.
“Mega. Absolutely biblical,” was his answer when referencing iconic 1994 album Definitely Maybe. “I don’t remember much about it, but obviously it’s stood the test of time. I fucking love that record; I still play some of the songs.
“A fucking mega album, that was. That’s exactly what made us. For a lot of the kids, it means a lot to their generation.”
See Gallagher’s list, below. Worth mentioning that his most recent record, Why Me? Why Not, wasn’t released at the time of his selections but I think it’s fairly safe to say he’d probably rank it in at number one.
10. Oasis – Heathen Chemistry, 2002.
9. Oasis – Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants, 2000.
8. Oasis – Don’t Believe The Truth, 2005.
7. Beady Eye – Different Gear, Still Speeding, 2011.
6. Oasis – Dig Out Your Soul, 2008.
5. Beady Eye – BE, 2013.
4. Oasis – Definitely Maybe, 1994.
3. Oasis – (What’s The Story) Morning Glory?, 1995.
2. Oasis – Be Here Now, 1997.
1. Liam Gallagher – As You Were, 2017.
Wondered what he thought of As You Were? “F**king 10 mate. Take it to 11 if you want.” Obviously.
Does this settle the debate? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below so we can all argue a little bit more.
