'She is a fantastic mum, I can't complain, she's absolutely awesome,' he said.

'She doesn't get on to me when I'm out working, doing different things, she understands, we do the very same job so it's not that different for us but yeah, she's awesome.'

The singer, who recently revealed that because of his touring schedule he goes weeks without seeing Bear, revealed his son's love of rap music.

'He comes over to my house every so often and we just hang out. He is literally the most easy going child,' he said.

'I think you put pressure on yourself as a dad sometimes, especially it's hard to connect with a two-year-old, they will laugh at anything.

'He had a real rap phase where he was buzzing off listening to [rap]... When we put rap music on, he'd be up [dancing],' he added.

'He came in the house and I was eating sushi and he sat on my lap, looked at the table of sushi, took out his dummy and went "Mmm, sushis",' he said.

'I didn't know what sushi was until I was 22!'

Liam also detailed his time in chart-topping boyband One Direction until their split in 2015, saying that despite having had 'the most connection' with band mate Louis Tomlinson, 27, there was a point where they 'absolutely hated' each other.

'I feel like me and Louis [Tomlinson] always had the most connection through everything,' he said.

'There was a point where me and Louis did not get on at all, we absolutely hated each other.

'There was huge friction. At the start of it me and him just didn't click at all. Then we kind of bonded together.'

Liam added that the death of Louis' mother to cancer in 2015, which was followed by the sudden death of his sister Félicité, 18, from a cardiac arrest, the pair 'always call each other' when either man has a problem.

'Bless him, Louis has been through so much in the last few years ever since the band ended and whenever I have a problem, whenever he has a problem we always call each other about it and make sure we check in,' he said.

Liam said he hadn't seen Harry Styles in a 'long time' and that Zayn Malik, who left the band a year before their split, 'didn't feel' a part of the group.

'I always feel like Zayn didn't really feel being there, if that makes sense. We all had a good time.

'There were moments when it was absolute bliss but then obviously there were moments where it was like, 'This is awful.'

'For him I just think there were more moments where he didn't really enjoy what he was doing.

He added: 'Fair play to him, he went off and did his own thing and he's doing really well.'

Also appearing on the show was Strictly Come Dancing judges Craig Revel Horwood, 54, Shirley Ballas, 59, and Motsi Mabuse, 38, as well as comedian Nish Kumar and Queer Eye star Jonathan Van Ness, 32.

Liam's praise of Cheryl comes after he revealed in a recent interview that the pair 'rubbed off on each other in a bad way' during their relationship.

Speaking on Jessie Ware's Table Manners podcast about the strain on their romance, the star said: 'I think we kind of rubbed off on each other a little bit in that way. In a bad way, actually.

'All of that stuff puts so much pressure on a relationship.'

The former One Direction star also said she had become anxious about going out with him in public, due to the constant attention the pair received.

Liam also hinted he was 'frightened' of Cheryl during their romance and said: 'She's strict. She's surprised me sometimes.'

When asked if he was frightened of her, he said: 'Let's say I've been on the receiving end of that quite a lot.'

Liam has now moved on with model Maya Henry, 19, with the pair making their red carpet debut at the launch event for Rita Ora's Escada collaboration at Paris Fashion Week earlier this month.

He said at the time: '[Maya's] awesome ... it's kind of got to the point with my life, where I'm like, screw this. It's not worth my happiness. If someone is going to take a picture, someone is going to do something.'

Appearing to take a swipe at his ex Cheryl, he said: 'The difference is with her, she's so relaxed that it helps me relax in a situation...

'It's been quite nice just going out. I've managed to explore a lot more of London than I ever have actually my life, which has been quite fun.

'My life has been quite normal recently, which has been a break. It's good. I'm enjoying myself right now.'
