Meghan Markle interview: The sweet gesture Meghan made for her American fans - Express

38, and Prince Harry ,35, star in a new documentary about their time in South Africa. ITV News at Ten anchor and friend of the Sussexes, Tom Bradby, shadowed them during their latest royal tour and conducted previously unseen interviews. The resulting documentary, "Harry & Meghan: An African Journey," aired on ITV last night. Here’s how the Duchess of Sussex kept her American roots in mind with this latest project.

American native Meghan Markle has fans on both sides of the pond.

While she now lives in Windsor with Prince Harry and Baby Archie Harrison she is still mindful of her fans back home.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussexes recent royal tour of Southern Africa was deemed a huge success.

The royal couple’s warm approach and apparent ability to connect with everyone they met meant they were received with open arms and made a lasting impression.

Meghan is a vocal champion of women’s rights and spent time with several organisations whose focus was on empowering women and girls in South Africa.

Royal fans were delighted to see Meghan and Harry’s son Baby Archie out in public for the first time during the trip.

They took the five-month-old with them to meet South African civil rights icon Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

Fans were permitted a proper glance of the royal tot as he cooed happily in his mother’s lap and Archie’s appearance was, without doubt, a highlight of the tour.

The Sussexes Africa trip came after months of fierce criticism back in the UK where they were dealt flack for several unpopular decisions.

Despite both campaigning to save the environment, Meghan and Harry were criticised for a string of private jets they took this summer.

Their decision to keep Archie’s christening private and to not reveal who his godparents were, also went down badly with critics.

Ahead of the documentary’s release a teaser clip of a behind-the-scenes interview with Meghan, suggests she has not been impervious to the criticism she and Harry have faced.

In the clip, Tom Bradby asked Meghan is she had struggled being a new mother in the media spotlight.

She replied: "Not many people have asked if I’m ok ... it’s a very real thing to be going through behind the scenes."

She replied “yes” when asked if it’s “really been a struggle” and she’s “not really ok”.

While many will be keen to watch the new programme, some fans may worry they can’t watch the British-made documentary where they are.

However, the American Duchess made a sweet gesture to ensure her compatriots can see the show.
