Meghan Markle and Prince Harry opened up about their struggles with media scrutiny in some of the most candid interviews ever given by members of the royal household over the weekend. Interviewed during their recent royal trip to southern Africa by broadcaster Tom Bradby for a new documentary “Harry & Meghan: An African Journey,” which ITV aired on Sunday, the couple appeared deeply emotional as they confessed that their “idyllic life” is becoming a struggle they have difficulty coping with. Unavoidably, the revelations are now being compared with the “infamous” Panorama interview, during which Harry’s mother, the late Princess Diana, laid bare her profound unhappiness with the relentless media scrutiny.
According to a Kensington Palace source, Prince William is "worried" about his brother and hopes both him and Meghan are "alright".
It is not clear how other senior members of the royal household reacted to the candid interviews, but many royal experts are suggesting the Queen might not be "thrilled".
The 93-year-old monarch’s mantra has always famously been “never explain, never complain", and her reaction after Princess Diana's emotional outpouring was not forgiving.
A year before her divorce, Diana opened up with BBC Panorama’s Martin Bashir about her life in the Royal Family and marriage to Prince Charles.
In the interview, Diana not only spoke about her husband’s infidelity but also shed some light on how she felt isolated and misunderstood within the Palace.
As a result of her revelations, Her Majesty not only stripped the Princess of Wales of her royal title, but according to a 1996 report by the Daily Express, she also took a "petty revenge" on the BBC, by ending their "66-year monopoly on her Christmas broadcast, ordering them to share it with rivals ITV".
The report, written by royal expert Robert Jobson, reads: "The dramatic move – breaking a royal tradition dating back to her grandfather King George V's reign – reveals her anger over the Corporation's betrayal.
"A BBC insider said last night: 'We have lost the Queen's Speech because of the Panorama interview with Princess Diana.

After the late princess opened up with Mr Bashir, the Queen reportedly ordered the pair to make the divorce official.
Her Majesty reportedly sent a letter to her son and Diana in December 1995.
The Prince wrote back shortly after that he was in favour of a divorce, but Diana took two months to respond.
Ultimately, she saw no other choice and agreed.
The divorce was finalised in August 1996, one year before Diana tragically died in a car accident in Paris.
