Arrow season 8 premiere killed a major Flash character off-screen - digitalspy.com

Now that Arrow has started its final season, death is inevitable and not even Oliver Queen himself is safe. In fact, anyone could potentially snuff it in season eight, but what we didn't expect to see were entire worlds dying right off the bat, weeks before 'Crisis On Infinite Earths' was scheduled to start.

For a while now, fans have known the upcoming crossover would impact every Arrowverse show in potentially fatal ways. Both Supergirl and The Flash died in the original comics this event is based on, and any one of our heroes could end up making the ultimate sacrifice.

The Monitor even foretold that The Flash "must die" on his show as well, although we have our own theory about that which involves the death of another hero in his place.

Either way, Team Flash should be used to grieving by now, because one of their own has seemingly perished in the Arrow season-eight premiere and no-one seems to have noticed.

Following some initial confusion, it soon became clear that the alternate reality Oliver visited in this latest episode was actually Earth-2. In this world, former Arrow villain Adrian Chase took over as The Hood and Oliver's best friend Tommy Merlyn adopted an evil persona known as the Dark Archer.

After dealing with all this and completing his secret mission for The Monitor, reality started to disintegrate around Oliver, who only managed to escape thanks to a handy portal. Unfortunately, Earth-2 citizens like Moira Queen weren't so lucky and they were destroyed along with everything else in that world.

Earth-2 is no more and aside from Oliver's small group, no-one else seemed to survive, which reminds us: has anyone checked in on Harry Wells lately?

Warner Bros.

In season one of The Flash, Zoom tricked everyone with a Wells persona before a more benevolent version of the character ended up joining STAR Labs and playing a major role on the show.

During his time with Team Flash, "Harry" helped defeat Zoom and The Thinker before deciding to return home at the end of season four. Where's "home" you ask? Why, Earth-2, of course.

Presumably then, Harry has been destroyed by the Anti-Matter wave alongside every other citizen of Earth-2.

It seems strange that a major character's death wouldn't be mentioned on screen, at least briefly, and a new interview with the Arrow showrunner suggests this isn't just an oversight either.

Speaking to TVLine, Beth Schwartz revealed that her team had to ask The Flash writers for permission before destroying Earth-2, probably because of the important role it played in past seasons:

"We were like, 'Is this okay? Does this ruin things?' And you know, they were very gracious."

So was this all just one big oversight? Hopefully, we'll see the ramifications of Harry's death in future Arrowverse episodes, or maybe, just maybe, he isn't dead after all.

Wells has often moved between worlds in the past, and his daughter Jesse is a speedster who could have theoretically saved him from Earth-2's destruction.

The Flash showrunner Eric Wallace recently teased an upcoming twist that will involve Wells in season six (via Entertainment Weekly), but it doesn't look like this particular "Harry" will be the one who hails from Earth-2:

"We haven't seen a Wells like [this], but there's this completely unexpected side to him, which I will not spoil... He has a secret that will be slowly dripped out... and it's going to lead him to an emotional place that's similar territory to one of the other Wellses."

Whatever this secret might be, let's just hope that Team Flash finds some time to mourn Harry as well before the body count continues to rise in the build-up to 'Crisis on Infinite Earths'.

Arrow season 8 has an October 15 premiere date on The CW in the US. In the UK, it airs on Sky One and NOW TV.
