Driver's recklessness caused accident that injured Kevin Hart, investigators say - Sky News

The accident that left comedian Kevin Hart seriously injured has been blamed on the driver of his car, according to investigators.

Jared Black, 28, had been turning on to Mulholland Highway near Malibu, California, in the early hours of 1 September when he sped up and lost control, a report from the California Highway Patrol said.

Hart was a passenger in the 1970 Plymouth Barracuda along with Black's fiancee Rebecca Broxterman, 31. She and Black were also seriously injured.

The car went down an embankment, knocking over a fence and hitting a tree so hard that it was uprooted, the report said, adding that none of those in the car were wearing seatbelts.

A witness saw the crash and called police saying a man who appeared to be Hart "looked like he's hurting", according to a fire department recording.

Hart's attorney, Andrew Brettler, told The Associated Press that the actor is still recovering from his injuries at home with the help of physical therapy.

He is limiting his professional commitments but expects to be working again next year.

In a statement, Hart, 40, said: "I have nothing but love for Jared and wish him and Rebecca a speedy recovery."

Reports at the time said Hart and Black both suffered major back injuries and Broxterman's injuries were less serious.

The police report said Black had not been under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

It did not say whether he would be charged for his role in the crash.

Hart started his career as a standup comedian but has emerged as an actor over the past few years.

His next appearance is in Jumanji: The Next Level, which was completed before the crash and is due for release in December.
