While Todd Phillips' Joker film is proving to be a commercial success, a new report claims that previous Joker actor Jared Leto apparently tried to kill the film.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Leto complained to his agents at CAA upon learning about Phillip's film. Leto then reportedly asked his then-music manager, Irving Azoff, to call the leader of Warner Bros.' parent company with the intention of shutting the film down.
However, a source close to Leto argued against this claim, while Azoff refused to comment. Another source said Azoff never went through with the call.
Leto previously portrayed the Joker in 2016's Suicide Squad, putting in a great deal of effort for his portrayal of the character. Unfortunately, the on-screen presence of Leto as the Clown Prince of Crime in the movie was greatly reduced to roughly 10 minutes in the final cut. Leto's Joker was also announced to receive his own solo film last year, but sources claim Leto may not reprise the role for any future films.
Directed by Todd Phillips, Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Josh Pais and Shea Whigham. The film is now in theaters.
