The conformation of a break came hours before an ITV documentary filmed during the couple’s recent South Africa tour was broadcast. In footage released before the broadcast, Harry described the idea of relocating to Africa as “amazing" but admitted it was unlikely. He said: “I don't know where we could live in Africa at the moment.
"We've just come from Cape Town, that would be an amazing place for us to be able to base ourselves, of course it would.
“But with all the problems that are going on there I just don't see how we would be able to really make as much difference as we want to without the issues and the judgment of how we would be with those surroundings.”
A royal source told CNN there were no plans yet so they could not confirm the length of time the couple would take away from the public eye.
The Duke and Duchess will take some “family time” off towards the end of the year, from mid-November once their current run of engagements and commitments were over, the source added.
It is likely they will divide their time between the US and the UK, the source revealed.
The couple will take six weeks off from their Royal duties for some “much-needed family time”.
A Royal source told The Sunday Times: "The Duke and Duchess have a full schedule of engagements and commitments until mid-November, after which they will be taking some much-needed family time.”
It is understood the family will fly to Los Angeles to spend Thanksgiving with Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland.

They added: “It’s an open secret. Meghan is homesick. Her mother, Doria, and most of her friends live in America and the couple both want Doria to have a close relationship with Archie.
“Interestingly, it seems to be Harry who is the driving force behind plans. He is becoming increasingly angry about the way he perceives the couple are being treated in Britain and wants to escape for a while.”
The Evening Standard’s royal editor Robert Jobson also believes a move could be on the cards.
He said: “I wouldn’t be surprised by this. They’ve had a tough time recently in the media”
Mr Jobson also highlighted Harry would not quit his royal duties.
He said: “I am sure he would want to reach a compromise with his wife, who appears to miss her American life.”
Grazia also claimed other sources believed Harry was “fed up with Britain” and was speaking to a number of friends to see how it would work out.
The move was said to have been advised by the couples new American PR agency.
Katie Nicholl, Vanity Fair’s royal editor, told Grazia: “Now they have a US publicity team to help coordinate the US arm of their charity, it’s very likely they will be spending time in the States.”
Despite rumours of a permanent move, Ms Nicholl claimed she was not convinced the couple would fully relocate to the states.
She added: “They might consider spending half the year in the US and half the year here.”
