THE Circle fans were left stunned on Friday night after latecomer Paddy Smyth was announced as the winner of the £70,000 cash prize.
Players Tim, Georgina and Woody had been in it from the start and made it to the final of the Channel 4 show, along with Paddy and catfish Sammie.
Irishman Paddy was ranked the most popular member of the circle by his fellow players.
After host Emma Willis announced Paddy as the winner, disgruntled viewers shared their frustration online.
One person tweeted: "Can’t believe i invested 3 weeks of my life to see Paddy win! FUMING WTF "
Another fan wrote: "Paddy is a nice guy but whaaaaat😭 Tim, Woody or Georgina deserved to win more #TheCircle"
And a third person moaned: "Well done to all the finalists. Not taking anything away from Paddy but I was rooting for lovely Woody tonight. He is simply a genuinely nice"
As one more typed on Twitter: "I feel a bit empty about the win because Paddy got through on Sammie’s coattails #TheCircle #TheCircleFinal"
Host Emma first revealed that Tim, 58, had been voted the viewers' favourite, scooping the smaller, but just as impressive, £30,000 prize.
Tim looked gobsmacked when his name was called out and commented "well isn't that nice" as his fellow contestants cheered him on.
Emma then revealed that Woody, 18, had come in fifth place in the circle, while in joint third place was Tim and Sammie.
That left Georgina and Paddy as the final two.
The winner was announced after the finalists met each other and the group finally discovered that Sammie, aka James, was a catfish.
Tim grilled him over being a catfish and called him a "naughty boy" but James told the group: "If my mum never had to worry about paying another bill, that's everything to me.
"I thought this character really resonated with me.
"I felt really bad about it a lot of the times and I got to the point where I didn't want to talk about Charlie."
"I never met Sammie in my life, Charlie is based on my nephew, I have felt bad, there have been times when I cried, I felt so guilty."
Tim and James were then joined by Paddy and Georgina, and the foursome agreed they thought Woody was another catfish.
Georgina jumped out of her seat when she met Woody and screamed: "I can't believe you are real!"
But Woody still had a secret to tell, and opened up to the group about the true identity of his parents, Fatboy Slim and Zoe Ball.
He told them: "I never played any games, I was myself the whole time. But I've got a secret, I came in here to be Woody, but people already know who I am when I am back home. Because my parents are famous."
As he continued to plea his innocence he said: "I thought I could come here and be myself ... my dad is Norman Cook, Fatboy Slim and my mum is Zoe Ball."
His fellow contestants were shocked as Paddy, who has cerebral palsy in his legs due to his mum having cancer in the womb when she was pregnant, screamed: "Oh my god I love Fatboy slim!"
While University academic and animator Tim remarked: "I think I know who Zoe Ball is."
The show kicked off on September 24, 2019, on Channel 4 and ran for just over three weeks.
