Twist and Pulse crowned the WINNERS of Britain's Got Talent: The Champions as they beat Stavros Flatley in the nail-biting grand finale

Twist and Pulse were crowned the winners of Britain's Got Talent: The Champions following the nail-biting finale on Saturday night.  

The dance duo were left stunned as hosts Ant and Dec announced their names, with the duo beating father and son act Stavros Flatley. 

Judges Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden and David Walliams were left thrilled as the group, real names Ashley Glazebrook (Twist) and Glen Murphy (Pulse), emerged victorious - nine years after they came runners up on series four of BGT.

As Twist and Pulse struggled to take in the good news, their families were left ecstatic and were seen jumping up and down in their seats.

The pair then hugged each other and were heard whispering: 'Oh my God, what the hell man!'

After gaining their composure, Glen said: 'I am absolutely speechless! I can’t thank you guys enough, I’m holding back everything right now.'

While Ashley took the opportunity to thank their fans for voting, adding: 'It literally feel like… amazing. I’ve said it before, things like this don’t happen to me and my best friend Glen.

'I’d like to say thank you so much, this means the world to us, honestly!'

Ant and Dec then turned to runners-up Stavros Flatley, with son Lagi Demetriou giving an impassioned speech thanking their fans and his father. 

When asked how he felt, he responded: 'Unbelievable, absolutely unbelievable. 

'And I just want to say thank you for everything over the last 10 years and thank you dad for everything you’ve done for me. Honestly, thank you so much.'

His speech was perhaps more poignant as it came following the reports that he had quit the popular group in a bid to concentrate on his barber shop business in Cyprus. 

Ahead of the show, Lagi told MailOnline: 'When we got to The Champions, I thought this was the right time to leave. But Simon Cowell told me not to quit forever. So I will return for some shows.' 

Twist and Pulse emerged victorious after beating the nine other acts who had been hoping to to be crowned champions, including Ukrainian sand artist Kseniya Simonova, who finished in third place.

The duo left the audience thrilled with their energetic and hilarious final routine which featured music snippets from songs the Titanic soundtrack, You’ve Got A Friend, Pony, Shy Guy and the I'm A Celebrity theme tune - much to the joy of Ant and Dec.

They also included a humorous Love Island skit in which Twist joking opted to recouple with judge Simon. 

Commenting on their performance Alesha, who had picked them as her golden buzzer act during the semi-finals, said: 'I am so happy for you right now.

'For me, the best thing about your act is that you get everyone involved, everyone is a part of it and I really hope that people vote for you. I just thought that was fantastic. Well done. Love Island as well, come on!'

While Simon remarked: 'We’ve seen a lot of dance act that that’s come on this show and I’m sitting here thinking, I actually haven’t got a clue what to say right now. 

'With you, I can say that you just made six thousand people get up on their feet. Love your sense of humour, got what you’re about, you just might be the underdogs if this competition. That was a ten!

Other acts taking part on the night included dance troop MerseyGirls, salsa duo Paddy & Nico, magician Darcy Oake and comedian Preacher Lawson.
